New bishop elected for the Wiawso district of northern Ghana

The Dean of the Cathedral Church of the Ascension in Wiawso, the Very Rev. Kyem Ampomah, was elected on Saturday Bishop of Sefwi Wiawso Diocese at a special meeting of synod held at the Wiawso College of Education. He succeeds the Rt. Rev. Abraham Kobina Ackah as bishop, who has served as bishop of the diocese in the West of Ghana’s northern region since 2006. No date has yet been set for his consecration. The Diocese of Sefwi Wiawso is one of 11 dioceses that comprised the internal province of West Africa under the metropolitan archbishop of Ghana, the Most Rev. Cyril Ben-Smith. The Province of Ghana is one of two internal provinces of the Church of the Province of West Africa.
