Statement released on Maundy Thursday by St James the Great Newport Beach
We are extremely joyful and thankful to be back in our beloved church and in communion with the Diocese of Los Angeles. We are grateful to Bishop John Taylor for his leadership and Canon Melissa McCarthy for her dedication to reconciliation, to the Standing Committee for its ongoing work to restore a healthy and healed diocese, and to the city and people of Newport Beach who have supported us during these last three years. Most of all, we thank God for sustaining us and everyone who has worked so hard to make this day happen.
We look forward to worshipping, to re-engaging relevant programs and to beginning new ones in service to Newport Beach and the wider community in collaboration with the Redeemer Center for Diocesan Ministries.
We will resume worship in the church at 3209 Via Lido in Newport Beach on Sunday, April 8th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. where Bishop John Taylor will preach and celebrate, Canon Melissa McCarthy will do the liturgy of the Word and Canon Cindy Evans Voorhees will be the Gospeler.
It is time to thrive once again. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we have a seat at the table for you. Welcome Home!
