Bishopthorpe Charitable Partners’ Trust, an independent charity, was launched at Bishopthorpe Palace last week. It has been established to support the vision, work and mission of the Archbishop of York across the Northern Province of the Church of England.
The trustees of the new charity will seek to award grants set out in a grant-making policy which includes providing support for the ministry of the archbishop; initiatives or projects that celebrate the faith stories of young people, that renew missionary purpose, and that share resources for prayer and open up new pathways to Jesus Christ.
Chair of the Trust Jonathan Radway said, “I am delighted to be working with trustees who bring their local knowledge and considerable experience to bear on how best to support the Archbishop’s ministry across the whole of the north. We are now looking to encourage up to 250 Partners to join and support us with regular donations to enable us to award grants which fit our charitable objectives and we would welcome anyone who would be interested in this to get in touch.”
Archbishop Stephen said, “I am so grateful for the time and energy that has been invested so far in creating the charity. We are all looking for something, all longing for a better world and a better life. The story of Jesus, and his example of selfless and self-sacrificing love, points us all towards the heart of how this can be achieved. The support that the charity can give to help share the good news of Jesus Christ with others is vital to bring hope, bring change and change lives.”
Trustees include Jonathan Radway, Claire Hensman, John Whitfield, Philip Holt, Professor Erinma Bell and Sir Richard Mantle.
