New bishop for Vanuatu

The Rev. Anthony Ling has been elected the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Banks and Torres Islands in the Anglican Church of Melanesia. Fr. Ling was elected at a special meeting of the diocesan synod held on 31 Aug 2023 at Soavaro Parish in Port Vila, in Vanuata.

Fr. Ling serves as the Chaplain of Lonsdale Junior Secondary School at Sola, Vanualava and had been the Principal of Fisher Young School of Theology and Ministry (STM) until 2022.  He was ordained deacon and priest in 2004 and has served as district priest in Northeast Vanualava and Northwest Vanualava and as leader of the dicoesan lay ministry training program.  He also served as an assistant parish priest at St James Orakei parish in Auckland, New Zealand in 2012. He earned a Master’s Degree in Theology and Ethics from the Pacific Theological College, Suva Fiji in 2017, a Bachelor of Theology from the University of Auckland in 2012, as well as a Diploma in Theology from Bishop Patteson Theological College in 2003.

He comes from Motalava in Vanuatu and he is married to Elizabeth Roskou from Vanualava, they have three children. The date of his consecration has yet to be announced.
