Laurence Fox

Head of Reclaim Party Laurence Fox has pursued the cause of GB News regular Calvin Robinson against the Church of England by calling for the Bishop of London to resign.

A petition on change.org was started by Mr Fox, calling on the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of England to resign from their roles, in favour of BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) applicants.

The petition “demands” for the next Archbishop of Canterbury to be democratically elected for a group of BAME clergy, in a move deemed to be more inclusive.

The petition follows a public statement issued by Justin Welby who deemed the Church of England to be “institutionally racist” after the Bishop reportedly told a black trainee vicar the Church was “institutionally racist”.

In a statement published under the petition, Mr Fox explained that Mr Welby has been calling for “radical and decisive” changes must be me made to “remedy past injustices” since 2020.

The Archbishop of Canterbury announced in a meeting with the Church’s ruling body, the General Synod, how he was “ashamed” of its history of racism.

A source close to Mr Fox told the Express Online: “Once Welby et al have resigned, Fox and Reclaim will support democratic elections to be held within the Church to replace them.”

Over 4,500 people have signed the petition, since its launch two weeks ago.

Mr Fox invited Rt Hon Welby and Dame Mullally to “save their souls” by resigning from their posts, emphasising how they would demonstrate the ultimate form of moral leadership.
