The tidbits surrounding #584’s title are most interesting. George is right to keep soldering on but also in his perception the future isn’t going to be pretty for anglicanism USA. It’s our fault. We keep praying each Sunday for the whole state of Christ’s Church. My druthers are God would raise up good priests and bishops. This may happen but it is looking like there will be a consuming slash burn first.
Kevin rightly lashes out at bad leaders (bishops). Will ACNA College of Bishops stand out as the exception and a port in the storm? How in hell would we know? It’s all a secret except for occasional meddling and international intrigue.
Gavin is very adept with clearing the fog of his mysticism and exhorting us to align ourselves with God’s will in repentance on our knees. So hard to do. I’m not looking forward to Judgement Day.
Very good comments among substantive fears, gentlemen.
There is so much meat and good faith here, that I kept going back, and back, so as to not miss any of this. “Unscripted” is such a lively, faithful and gutsy forum, for which I am very grateful!
My late parents’ generation and their predecessors had experienced much of what will befall our young generation and the next. We have, truly, prepared them so poorly for what is coming, due to our lack of self discipline, selfishness & loss of faith.
Yet God is in charge of ALL, and I place my entire hope and trust in Him – we live entirely on His mercy… in all generations and the next.
Time to pray, and to ask God what is required of us at this moment. I have confidence in Him.
Having grown up in both TEC and the AC of C, I must correct Kevin when he said Morning Prayer was the main service in the 1920’s, it was in the 1960’s and 70’s. I attended churches in the following Dioceses Massachusetts, Huron, Edmonton and Nova Scotia. I think the shift came with the new prayer book in TEC and the BAS in Canada.
Now with regards to no church and what I think is a slow response by the bishops, 2 quotes:
“Among the more important duties of bishops that of preaching the Gospel has pride of place” Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, 21st November 1964
“It is the desire of this council that the office of preaching, which particularly belongs to the bishops, should be exercised as often as possible for the salvation of the people” Council of Trent, Session 24, Decree on Reform
They seem to be more concerned with being ArchNannies, as George calls them, than on their profession of tending to their flock. We know from crises , look at 9-11, that this is the time people turn to and need the church: and we shutdown. May explain why so many pews are empty
