The Rev. Canon Benon Magezi Elected
The Rev. Canon Benon Magezi has been elected the next Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 8th January 2017 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano, Rukungiri
Canon Magezi grew up in a Christian home and attended church regularly with his family. During a Mission Sunday at his local church in 1981, however, he received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and was born again. The following year he left teaching and began full-time ministry as a parish youth worker.
Canon Magezi is currently serving as Diocesan Treasurer of North Kigezi Diocese. Before becoming Diocesan Treasurer in 2010, he served in parish ministry in seven different parishes in North Kigezi Diocese. As a parish priest, he has overseen preaching missions, evangelism and mission, adult literacy programmes, and many other church development programmes.
Canon Magezi was ordained a deacon in December 1991 and a priest the following year. He was made a Canon of Emmanuel Cathedral in 2015.
Canon Magezi earned a Bachelor of Divinity from the Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology at Uganda Christian University, Mukono, in 2009, having earned both a Certificates and Diploma in Theology from Bishop Barham Theological College in 1990 and 1998, respectively.
The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Uganda Christian University in Mukono on 24th August 2016.
Canon Magezi is married to Gladys and they have five children. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. Patrick Tugume-Tusingwire as Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese.
