The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Kenya has reaffirmed that it remains in a state of impaired communion with the Episcopal Church of the USA. At its September 2015 meeting, the synod adopted Resolution 15 “On Mission” expressing disappointment with the decision by the June 2015 meeting of General Convention to authorize rites for the blessing of same sex marriages.

The resolution stated in part:

15.2     Arising from the Archbishop’s Charge, and given the due prominence attached to mission, the ACK Synod resolves that:…..

c)        The ACK continues to disassociate with the Episcopal Church of America – which has now officially sanctioned a liturgy for same sex marriages.

d)   The Anglican Church of Kenya supports the Global South and the arms of the Anglican Communion to exclude TEC from all activities in the Communion as a measure of discipline.

On 4 Nov 2003, the Anglican Church of Kenya issued a statement declaring that the province “will not recognise the ministry of this one Bishop” – the Rt. Rev. V Gene Robinson. It further stated the Kenyan Church supported “those Bishops, Clergy and laity in various dioceses in ECUSA who continue to uphold the historic faith and order of the Church.” However those who backed the consecration of Bishop Robinson and supported the normalization of homosexuality in the life of the church “have, by their own action, [entered into a state of] impaired communion.”

September’s statement maintains the stance of the church adopted by the province in 2003.
