A memorial ledger stone to the Right Honourable The Lord Callaghan of Cardiff KG was dedicated in the north-west corner of the nave of Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 7th July 2015. The service was conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall. Lord Callaghan (27 March 1912 – 26 March 2005) was the Labour Prime Minister from 1976 to 1979. He is the only politician to have held all four ‘great offices of state’, having also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary. The Right Honourable The Baroness Jay of Paddington, daughter, asked the Dean, on behalf of the Dean and Chapter of Westminster, to take the memorial into the safe custody of the Abbey. The Address was given by the Right Honourable The Lord Owen CH. The Lord Donoughue read Romans 12: 9 – 18. Emma Dogliani, soprano, accompanied by Jeremy Woodside, Organ Scholar, sang the Mozart setting of Laudate Dominum, Psalm 117. Prayers were led by the Reverend Christopher Stoltz, Minor Canon and Sacrist of Westminster. Flowers were laid at the memorial by four great-grandchildren of Lord Callaghan.
