The meeting of the actress and archbishop came as part of Ms. Jolie marked the fifth anniversary of the founding of her Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI).
In 2015 Archbishop Justin Welby met Ms Jolie during a symposium of religious leaders, who were addressed by Ms Jolie on the topic of how faith groups cand help end rape as a weapon of war.
After their meeting, Archbishop Welby lauded the actresses’ “extraordinary” work as the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Refugees.
“What she said just now sums up so beautifully the issues we are facing, and puts it so precisely in terms of the challenge that there is. It’s wonderful that she has committed her time, her energy, and has taken great personal risks in order to be able to speak authentically as to what she’s done,” the archbishop said.
