The Suffragan Bishop of Toronto, the Rt. Rev. Linda Nicholls, has been elected Bishop coadjutor of the Anglican Church of Canada’s Diocese of Huron.
The Suffragan Bishop of Toronto, the Rt. Rev. Linda Nicholls, has been elected Bishop coadjutor of the Anglican Church of Canada’s Diocese of Huron. On 13 Feb 2016 a special meeting of the diocesan synod of the southwestern Ontario diocese elected Bishop Nicholls on the third ballot from among eight candidates. She will be the diocese’s first female diocesan bishop. “I am delighted that people of Huron gathered in Synod have called the Rt. Rev. Linda Nicholls to the office of coadjutor bishop,” Huron bishop the Rt. Rev Robert Bennett said. “She is a gifted and faithful leader who will help chart our future to that place where God-in-Christ wills us to be. I very much look forward to working with her.” Bishop Nicholls was elected area bishop of Trent-Durham in the Diocese of Toronto since 2008 and served as a parish priest in the diocese of Toronto since ordination in 1987. She had also served as the Canadian church’s co-ordinator of dialogue for Ethics, Interfaith Relations and Congregational Development and is co-chair of the Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue in Canada. She will take office as the 13th Bishop of Huron upon the retirement of Bishop Bennett later this year.
