The Archbishop of Uganda has chastised one of his bishops for lending the prestige of his office to the support of politicians. Speaking to reporters last week in Mvara while on a visitation to the Diocese of Madi & West Nile, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali said: “We are by the policies of Church of Uganda supposed to be neutral. If someone is taking sides, he is violating the policies of the church. If any clergy wants to involve him or herself in politics, he should first resign.” The archbishop’s comments follow the 25 Aug 2015 visit by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to the Diocese of West Ankole. The Bishop of West Anokole, the Rt. Rev. Yona Katonene offered the president a stool, spear and shield at the gathering and pledged his loyalty to the government.
