The House of Bishops of the Anglican Church of Rwanda on Thursday, December 19, elected the Rev. Louis Pasteur Kabayiza as the next bishop of Shyogwe Diocese in succession to the Rt. Rev. Jared Kalimba.
Bishop-elect Kabayiza will be consecrated and enthroned on March 23, 2025 by the primate, the Most Rev. Laurent Mbanda for the diocese in southwestern Rwanda. The Diocese founded in 1992 consists of 33 parishes and 147 missions with a total of 25,840 members located in four Districts: Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, and Nyanza of the Southern Province of Rwanda. It is also home to 616 home groups (grassroots churches).
The diocese is involved in rural development, medical work, vocational training, and education. Shyogwe Diocese is rural, and the population is very poor. Many people are still suffering greatly from the results of the genocide and war in 1994. Together with the Government, the Diocese tries to handle many survival issues that the people and believers are facing.
