Moderator of the Church of South India elected

The Bishop in the Diocese of Krishna-Godavari has been elected moderator of the Church of South India. The Rt. Rev. Govada Dyvasirvadam was elected to a two-year term by the CSI synod at its biennial meeting held from 11-14 January 2014 in Vijayawada, Andrah Pradesh.

The tenth child of a CSI priest, Bishop Dyvasirvadam trained for the ministry at Bishops College, Calcutta and undertook advanced studies at United Theological College in Bangalore and earned a doctorate from the South Asia Theological Research Institute in Bangalore with a dissertation in the field of Liberation Theology.

Ordained in 1978, Bishop Dyvasirvadam was a lecturer then warden of Andrah Pradesh Theological College. From 1998 to 2001 he served as General Secretary of the CSI before his election as Bishop of Krishna-Godavari. At the 2012 meeting of synod he was elected deputy moderator of the CSI.

The 22 bishops from the four South Indian states and Jaffna in Sri Lanka, 135 presbyters and 275 lay members attending the 34 meeting of synod also elected a deputy moderator, general secretary and treasurer for the CSI.
