New Guinea Islands Bishop Reg Makele, the Dogura Bishop-elect & Fr. Phillip Jirigari

Fr. John Dubabagi has been elected as the new bishop for the Dogura Diocese. The election took place in the diocese, at St James, Ukaka, where the annual meeting of ACPNG’s Provincial Council was being held. When Bishop of Port Moresby, Peter Ramsden had Fr. John as one of his clergy. He writes: “Fr. John is 54, married to Primrose and they have six children. He is from Sirisiri in Dogura
Diocese and after ordination (deacon 1993, priest 1994) served in that diocese until I appointed him Rector of Holy Family Hohola in Port Moresby in January 2012. He has previously been to the UK,
attending “The Anglican Pilgrimage: A conference for seminarians and clergy” at Canterbury Cathedral in June 2012. He was also on the Anglican Board of Mission – Australia’s ‘Encounter Programme’, spending two months at St Paul’s Parish, Burwood, South Sydney in 2013. Fr. John is currently Rector at Ascension Church in Alotau, the capital of Milne Bay Province.”

The consecration of the Bishop-elect will take place in Dogura Cathedral on 14th April 2024. Bishop Peter Ramsden has been invited to lead a retreat for Fr. John before his consecration and also preach at the service.
