The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have approved a musical Form to be used at the beginning of meetings of the Church of England’s General Synod. A spokesperson for the Archbishops described the new Form as ‘a joyful expression and affirmation of the long-standing self-identification of the Church’s bishops as muppets’. The House of Bishops is to be called the Menage of Muppets, the archbishop of the northern province becomes the Archmuppet of York, and the hitherto informal designation Archmuppet of Canterbury will be the formal synodical title of the archbishop of the southern province.
