Domestic abuse allegations leads to priest’s suspension

The Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio has initiated Title IV disciplinary proceedings against the Rev. Daniel McClain, the priest in charge of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Oakwood section of Dayton,Ohio.

On 11 May 2022 Southern Ohio’s provisional bishop, the Rt. Rev. George Wayne Smith, informed St Paul’s he had placed Fr. McClain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings. He may not engage in ministry nor may have contact with the members of the congregation until the proceedings are concluded.

On 9 May 2022 Bishop Smith was informed that Fr. McClain’s wife had leveled a complaint of domestic abuse against her husband. A diocesan spokesman told the Dayton Daily News the diocese was cooperating with law enforcement in this matter.
