Usually, Religion News is very slow in the summer. The biggest international news can be a simple as the local church picnic. However, in 2019 every week offers a bigger story to cover.

How disappointing that the AoY chooses to bypass the well established paths of discernment. These paths are there for a reason, so that the Church may truly discern with the candidate for ordination their calling.
What message does this give to my Ordinand who has gone through rigorous selection procedures and still has 2 years of training?
What a remarkable coincidence that as the AoY retires, his wife is ordained….
Discernment you say? TEC is absent any good discernment. The Ordinand may start out with a sincere belief that the Creator has specifically called them to the ministry but somewhere in the process they come out the other end as a deacon to the Lesser Jesus and his father the God of Myth. Discernment isn’t weeding out the goof balls and freaks. I have another on going example of a priestette doing her social justice warrior thing 70 miles down the road on the backs of addicts.
Fortunately I am his mentor, and have already warned him about the SJW psychobabble
A Church in Name Only – CHINO.
In Niebuhr’s words, the Church of England has become a church in which “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.”
Fr. George,
You may wish to speak with a lawyer (I am not one) in Florida (where I also live). In Florida the “seal of the confession” can be invoked by the person who spoke to you, without your consent and regardless of your theological understanding.
Florida Statute 90.505 is the law in question.
90.505 Privilege with respect to communications to clergy.—(1) For the purposes of this section:
(a) A
“member of the clergy” is a priest, rabbi, practitioner of Christian
Science, or minister of any religious organization or denomination
usually referred to as a church, or an individual reasonably believed so
to be by the person consulting him or her.
(b) A
communication between a member of the clergy and a person is
“confidential” if made privately for the purpose of seeking spiritual
counsel and advice from the member of the clergy in the usual course of
his or her practice or discipline and not intended for further
disclosure except to other persons present in furtherance of the
communication.
(2) A
person has a privilege to refuse to disclose, and to prevent another
from disclosing, a confidential communication by the person to a member
of the clergy in his or her capacity as spiritual adviser.
(3) The privilege may be claimed by:
(a) The person.
(b) The guardian or conservator of a person.
(c) The personal representative of a deceased person.
(d) The
member of the clergy, on behalf of the person. The member of the
clergy’s authority to do so is presumed in the absence of evidence to
the contrary.
Does this mean all our commentary here on Anglican Ink is covered by the seal of the confessional, or only those comments addressed to George Conger?

Thank you guys for a great Episode.
In ordaining his wife, Sentamu had not timed and pulled off the job well. Two reasons.
Before stating the two reasons, one must be reminded of him cutting up his dog collar in two in public at one of the annual synods a few years ago. Although he said he did that to demonstrate his opposition to Robert Mugabe, in my opinion, it was a stunt to please the UK government which once ruled and exploited Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Sentamu seems corrupt the same as Mugabe in appointing cronies, in this case, ordaining his wife with only about 18 months all up for both to retire.
Now the two reasons:
1) Had he had foresight, Sentamu should have ordained his wife a year ago to leave enough time to fast-track and appoint her as a suffragan bishop this time around. This way, he could have added an African face to the Lambeth attendees next year. Also, had the timing was right, in line with CoE policy on minorities and females in the episcopate — and what corrupt leaders do to ensure safe succession — Mrs Sentamu could have been well placed to seamlessly take up the See of York.
2) As corrupt leaders do with their spouses and relatives, Sentamu too should have invited all his in-laws, cousins, nephews and the lot also to be ordained deacons. After all, why they too cannot hear a “call to ministry”?
I thought Sentamu was Ugandan
Sorry. You are right, Sentamu is Ugandan. Thank you. I have revised my comment accordingly. He made such a fuss about cutting up his collar, I associated him with Mugabe. ?
