The Inauguration Ceremony of the Province of the Anglican Church of Chile and the Installation of its first Primate the Most Reverend Héctor Zavala Muñoz will take place on Sunday Nov 4.
The celebration will take place from 11:00 in the offices of The Grange School in the city of Santiago and will be attended by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who will preside over the ceremony.
Some 800 people will participate in the inauguration service, including diocesan and auxiliary bishops, pastors, leaders and lay members from the four dioceses of the Anglican Church of Chile, the diocese of Valparaíso, Santiago, Temuco and Concepción. Priests, Archbishops, Bishops, clergy, academics and missionary societies from various Anglican provinces of the Communion, religious and governmental authorities, among others, will also participate.
Due to the importance of this event, especially in the capital, the worship services of the 21 local churches in the Diocese of Santiago that make up this territorial division will be suspended. For Anglicans who live in other regions and can not participate in person, they can follow the live broadcast of the ceremony on Facebook Live.
In a letter addressed to all members of the Anglican Church of Chile, the Diocesan Bishop of Santiago Hector Zavala and future Primate of the Province, stressed the importance of the celebration saying that “that Sunday will be a historic day, unique and unrepeatable for our Chilean Church, the Province of South America and the Anglican Communion (…) Today we see that it was worth all the effort and we thank God that all this will be for the extension of His Kingdom in our country and that many, including those who have come to live among us, can know Christ as Lord and Savior. “
He also encouraged the Church in Chile by inviting each member to be a part of this memorable event, emphasizing that they “join with their families, churches and friends; in communion and fellowship in ways that encourage each other. “
About the ceremony
The inauguration service will be presided over by Archbishop Justin Welby, who will preach and preside at the consecration of the Province and the installation of the new Primate.
The ceremony will also commemorate the nearly two centuries of history since the emergence of the Anglican Church in Chile, influenced by two major currents. First, by the chaplaincies and British communities that obtained official permission to worship, and second, the evangelization of the Indians in the south of the country, mainly with the Mapuche people in the Araucanía by Anglican Capt. Alan Gardiner and his fellow missionaries.

El domingo 04 de noviembre se llevará a cabo la Ceremonia de Inauguración de la Provincia de la Iglesia Anglicana de Chile y la Instalación de su primer Primado, el Reverendísimo Héctor Zavala Muñoz.
La celebración se realizará a partir de las 11:00 horas en dependencias de The Grange School en la ciudad de Santiago y contará con la presencia del Arzobispo de Canterbury, Reverendísimo Justin Welby, quien presidirá la ceremonia.
En el servicio de inauguración participarán cerca de 800 personas, entre ellas los obispos diocesanos y auxiliares, pastores, líderes y miembros laicos provenientes de las cuatro diócesis de la Iglesia Anglicana de Chile, la diócesis de Valparaíso, Santiago, Temuco y Concepción. También participarán Primados, Arzobispos, Obispos, clérigos, académicos y sociedades misioneras provenientes de diversas provincias anglicanas de la Comunión, y autoridades religiosas, gubernamentales, entre otras.
Debido a la importancia de este evento, en la Diócesis de Santiago, especialmente en la capital, se suspenderán los servicios de culto de las 21 iglesias locales que integran esta división territorial. Para los anglicanos que vivan en otras regiones y no puedan participar presencialmente, podrán seguir la transmisión en vivo de la ceremonia por Facebook Live.
En una carta dirigida a todos los miembros de la Iglesia Anglicana de Chile, el Obispo Diocesano de Santiago Héctor Zavala y futuro Primado de la Provincia, destacó la importancia de la celebración diciendo que “ese domingo será un día histórico, único e irrepetible para nuestra Iglesia chilena, la Provincia de Sudamérica y la Comunión Anglicana(…) Hoy vemos que valió la pena todo el esfuerzo y damos gracias a Dios que todo esto será para la extensión de Su Reino en nuestro país y que muchos, incluyendo a aquellos que han llegado a vivir entre nosotros, puedan conocer a Cristo como Señor y Salvador”.
Asimismo, animó a la Iglesia en Chile invitando a cada miembro a ser parte de este memorable acontecimiento, enfatizando que “asistan con sus familias, iglesias y amigos; y disfrutemos para tener comunión y compañerismo y de esa manera animarnos mutuamente”.
Acerca de la ceremonia
El servicio de inauguración será presidido por el Arzobispo Justin Welby, quien estará a cargo de la predicación y será quien encabezará la consagración de la Provincia y la instalación del nuevo Primado.
En la ceremonia también se conmemorarán los cerca de dos siglos de historia desde el surgimiento de la Iglesia Anglicana en Chile, influenciada por dos grandes corrientes. Primeramente, por las capellanías y comunidades británicas que obtuvieron permisos oficiales para celebrar cultos discretos, y, por otro lado, por los primeros intentos de evangelización liderados por el capitán anglicano Alan Gardiner y la obra misionera iniciada con los indígenas en el sur del país, principalmente con el pueblo mapuche en la Araucanía.
