Christian local authority leaders for network in Britain
Following May’s local elections and with many new councillors in post, Christians in Politics is excited to take this opportunity to introduce the Councillors Prayer Network.
There are thousands of Christians serving in local government all over the UK. At Christians in Politics events we regularly hear amazing stories of transformation from those who are involved in these vital (but often thankless) roles. We also hear a cry from those working locally to be part of a bigger, supportive family. Serving within local government can be challenging at the best of times. And for Christians there are often additional tensions to contend with, trying to remain firmly rooted in Christ and living out Kingdom values, whilst working within the political system and trying to best represent the communities they serve.
Existing to support Christians who are local, borough or county councillors, officers in local councils and those who feel a calling to pray for those serving in the political sphere, the Councillors Prayer Network is a great way for those across all parties and denominations to connect, to share experiences, to talk about the issues they face and to strengthen one another in prayer.
The network is run by Helen Harrison, Operations Manager for CRED Foundation and Councillor Network Co-Ordinator for Christians in Politics. Helen has served as a councillor for Thornbury Town Council since 2007 and as Mayor for Thornbury from May 2016 to May 2018. She fully understands the challenges and idiosyncrasies of public life, which has fuelled her passion to provide access to prayer support and networking opportunities for those working in this area.
Starting out as a quarterly prayer breakfast gathering in South Gloucestershire, the Councillors Prayer Network has now grown to include a bi-monthly prayer email, which is accessed by councillors nationwide.
We desire to see many more Christian councillors join the network and to start up additional regional group gatherings. We would be delighted if you can help us spread the word by sharing this information with your wider audience.
