After a four year vacancy the Church of South India has appointed a Bishop in Medak. The Rt. Rev. A.C. Solomon Raj (pictured) was consecrated on 13 Oct 2016 at St George’s Cathedral in Chennai by the Moderator, the Most Rev. G. Dyvasirvadam and Deputy Moderator, the Rt. Rev. Thomas K. Oommenn, to serve as bishop of the diocese in central India’s Telangana State. On 9 June 2012  the Rt. Rev. T. Samuel Kanaka Prasad was suspended as Bishop in Medak by the CSI Synod Executive Committee for corruption. The letter dismissing him from office stated Bishop Prasad was “misusing [his] position as Bishop, acting as attorney of the CSITA even after the lapse of the power of attorney and committing various illegalities in the administration, supervision and preservation of the properties of the Church. The Hyderabad diocese — one of the wealthiest in the CSI — has been administered by the church’s moderator. The new bishop at the time of his election served as priest in charge of Holy Trinity Church, Bolarum, Secunderabad and as the diocesan vice-chairman for the moderator.
