Zambian president declares national day of prayer and fasting

The President of Zambia has declared 18 Oct 2015 a day of fasting, repentance and prayer for the Central African Nation. In his 18 Sept 2015 proclamation President Edgar Lungu (pictured) said the requests he had received from the country’s Christian leaders to place the country under the protection of God was justified in light of the country’s founders committing the “nation’s destiny to God’s providence as evidenced by their placing of the national flag at the high altar of the [Anglican] Cathedral of the Holy Cross [in Lusaka] on October 25, 1964.” The president appealed “to all the people of Zambia to assemble on that day, according to their several forms of worship, to keep it solemn fast in response to the social and economic crisis”.
