Genesis tells us that love is the origin of life — Lord Sacks

Rabbi Lord Sacks discussed how both nature and Judaism tell the story of how love is the origin of life in the world.  There are natural and religious ways of grasping why monogamy, why marital permanence, why equality between men and women, and why understanding humans’ relationship with God, are all linked to the lived reality of a marital union between a man and a woman that brings forth children.  He stated that no one wants to return to the prejudices of the past; but compassion cannot inhibit respect for the single most humanizing institution in history; the institution that places men and women on an equal footing, and assures care for children.
