Coptic Orthodox Patriarch meets Anglican leaders in Cairo

[Watani International] Pope Tawadros II yesterday received at the papal headquarters in Abbassiya, Cairo, members of the Anglican Interfaith Commission headed by Bishop Mouneer Anis—better known in Egypt as Bishop Mouneer Hanna—Bishop of the diocese of Egypt, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa. Dr Josiah Idowu-Fearon, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion delivered to the Pope a message from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Pope Tawadros had met the Most Reverend Archbishop in May 2017 while on a visit to the UK.

The AIFC was requested by the Anglican Consultative Council when they met in Lusaka in 2016, and launched at the Primates’ Meeting in Canterbury last October. Its purpose is to “bring mutual understanding and build trust where there is ignorance, fear and hostility” between different faith groups.
