Bishop George Erwau questioned over collision with a boda-boda that left a passenger dead

A Ugandan bishop has been involved in a motor vehicle accident that has left a women dead. The Observer newspaper reports the Rt. Rev. George Erwau, BIshop of Soroti, was driving his pickup truck on the evening of 22 May 2017 from his home on the outskirts of Soroti to the city, when he collided with a boda-boday motorcycle. A passenger on the boda-boda, Angela Atono, died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the Soroti hospital. Bishop Erwau reported the incident at the Soroti Central Police station and was jailed overnight while the accident was investigated. The Church of Uganda has not issued a formal statement on the incident, nor have the police released their findings. Should the bishop be found to be culpable for the accident and sanctioned by the law, under the canons of the Church of Uganda he could be removed from office for conduct unbecoming a member of the clergy.
