Bishop of Madi and West Nile Diocese appointed for the Church of Uganda

House of Bishops elects Canon Charles Collins Andaku on 12 Nov 2016

The Rev. Canon Charles Collins Andaku has been elected the next Bishop of Madi and West Nile Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on 26th Feb 2017 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Mvara, Arua. He will succeed the Rt. Rev. Dr. Joel Obetia, who is retiring. 

Canon Andaku was born in 1966 in Kibigoro, Avavu-Katrini, Terego, Arua. He was born again in 1984 during a Scripture Union conference at Mvara Secondary School. 

Canon Andaku trained as a secondary school teacher, receiving his Diploma in Education from Muni National Teachers College in 1991. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Education from Makerere University in 1999. 

While serving as a teacher at Muni Girls Secondary School, he was ordained a deacon in 2005 and a priest in 2006. In May of 2016 he was made a Canon of Mvara Cathedral. 

In 2009 Canon Andaku received his Master of Divinity from Uganda Christian University. In addition to teaching at Muni Girls Secondary School, he has also served as their Chaplain. In 2010, he also began lecturing at the Arua campus of Uganda Christian University, and in 2012 he became the Vicar of Emmanuel Cathedral, Mvara. 

Canon Andaku has served on numerous Boards for schools and continued to be active in Scripture Union. His hobbies include listening to Christian music, reading Christian literature, and athletics. He is married. 

The election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting in Iganga on 12th November 2016.
