The Anglican Church of Burundi reports the Most Rev Martin Nyaboho was installed as fourth archbishop of the East African province on 21 August 2016 at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Bujumbura. The former archbishop, the Most Rev. Bernard Ntahoturi told the congregation attending the service he had witnessed tremendous change within the church during his eleven years as primate, and prayed the Lord would bless the work of his successor. “We did it together, and God was with us”. The Bishop of Durham, the Rt Rev Paul Butler, preached from the Book of Jeremiah, warning the new archbishop that the task set for him would be hard, but the Lord was faithful to his promises and would always be with him. Guests from across Africa and from the Diocese of Winchester and the Anglican Consultative Council attended the ceremony. The Archbishop of Kenya, the Most Rev Jackson Ole Sapit, speaking on behalf of the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa (CAPA), urged the new archbishop to continue the work of “unity, love and dedicated service for the people of Africa” set by his predecessors. Archbishop Nyaboho said the province would pursue its mission of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching and baptizing, building up the resources of the people as a work of love through development, fighting injustice and protecting the environment so that people can live as free human being. “The Province of the Anglican Church of Burundi is and will always be part of the Anglican Communion,” Archbishop Nyaboho said.
