A former Queensland priest and one time chaplain to Archbishop Peter Hollingworth has been jailed for three months for child abuse. On 20 June 2016 Barry John Greaves pled guilty to one count of abusing a child under the age of 14 before a Brisbane court. In 2009 Greaves was sentenced to three years imprisonment for abusing three altar boys while serving as a parish priest in the 1980s. Judge Tony Moynihan sentenced Greaves to a further 12 months imprisonment, to be suspended after three months had been served for abusing fourth altar boy at a parish in south-west Queensland in the early 1970s. Ordained in 1961, Greaves left the ministry after the abuse charges were made public in 2008. His attorneys had asked the court to grant the 79 year old Greaves bail while he appealed the sentence. However, the judge declined, noting the appeal would not be heard until after he had served his sentence.
