The Anglican Mission in England (AMiE) gives thanks to God that its Synod has approved the appointment of James Leggett as an Assistant Bishop.
James was nominated following a thorough discernment process by the AMiE Bishops Selection Committee, which unanimously commended him to Synod. With Synod’s agreement, the appointment will now be submitted to the Chair of the Global Anglican Council for his prayerful consideration. Following this, the Chair, Archbishop Laurent Mbanda, will determine the appropriate next steps. James retired from local church leadership last year, after many years of faithful ministry as Minister of St James’s Church, Ryde. He currently worships at Anchor Church, Lymington & Pennington and, as an Assistant Bishop, will principally serve AMiE churches across the south of England. Throughout his ministry, James has been known for his faithful exposition of Scripture, wise pastoral leadership, and deep commitment to the mission of the local church. His extensive experience in local church ministry, together with his long-standing encouragement of gospel ministry beyond his own congregation, will be a great blessing to AMiE’s churches, clergy and leaders. James and his wife, Mary, have served Christ faithfully together over many years, and AMiE looks forward with great thanksgiving to this new season of ministry.
AMiE’s Bishops welcomed Synod’s decision and expressed their gratitude to the Bishops Selection Committee for its careful and prayerful work throughout the discernment process. They also expressed their gratitude for the faithful oversight and partnership of the Global Anglican Council and its Chair, Archbishop Laurent Mbanda, recognising the wider communion’s shared responsibility for episcopal oversight and the safeguarding of faithful Anglican ministry.
