Police have recovered the car driven by the Bishop of Gwagwalada when he disappeared last week, but his whereabouts continue to remain unknown. On 3 Sept 2015 the Rt. Rev. Moses Bukpe-Tabwaye was kidnapped near the border between Edo and Delta States in Southern Nigeria. The Primate of All Nigeria, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, on Saturday reported the bishop’s captors were demanding 40 million Naira (approximately $200,000) for his release. A statement released by police in Asaba today said: “On September 4, 2015, a Police Safer Highway Patrol team 009, while on patrol at Onicha-Ugbo/Ewhohimi road recovered an ash colored Toyota Highlander jeep with Reg. No. GWA 842 SJ. On further investigation, the command gathered that one Bishop of Gwagwalada Diocese, Bishop Moses Tabwaye was travelling from Abuja to Onitsha before he was kidnapped somewhere in Edo State.” According to local news reports the car was found with its engine still running. A spokesman for the police said the case had been assigned to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Nigerian Police Force.
