We give thanks to God for a remarkable moment in the life of the Church of North India as the Rt. Revd. Neena Charan was consecrated today as the newly elected Bishop of the CNI Bhopal Diocese – becoming the third woman bishop in the history of the CNI.

The consecration service was held at the CNI Bhavan Chapel in New Delhi and was led by the Most Revd. B. K. Nayak, Moderator of the Church of North India. The Rt. Revd. Silvan Christian served as the celebrant of the Holy Communion. The Rt. Revd. Francis Hansda delivered the sermon. The Rt. Revd. Manoj Charan, Acting Deputy Moderator of the CNI Synod, offered the vote of thanks. The service was participated by Revd. Dr. D. J. Ajith Kumar, General Secretary of the CNI Synod, and Mr. Subrata Gorai, who both took part in this sacred occasion.

Bishop Neena Charan is a seasoned leader with a deep commitment to the Gospel and the mission of the Church. She completed her undergraduate studies at Government Girls’ College and responded to God’s call by pursuing theological education at Satyaniketan Theological College, Allahabad, where she earned her Bachelor of Divinity (BD) in 2003.

Ordained in 2013 in the Bhopal Diocese, she has served the Church faithfully for over 12 years in various pastoral roles. Her ministry is marked by strong Scriptural teaching, pastoral compassion, and a passion for empowering the people of God. She currently serves as the Associate Presbyter-in-Charge of Masih Mandir Church, Indore. Bishop Neena Charan is married to the Rt. Revd. Manoj Charan, Bishop of the Diocese of Amritsar and Acting Deputy Moderator of the CNI Synod. Together, they are dedicated servants of the Church.

They are blessed with a son, Yashab, currently studying for his Bachelor of Divinity at Bishop’s College, Kolkata, and serving as the President of the Synodical Youth Fellowship Committee (SYFC) – a sign of rising new leadership within the Church. Her consecration today is not only a celebration of her faithful journey and calling but also a bold affirmation of the Church’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of women in ordained ministry. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless Bishop Neena Charan with wisdom, courage, and grace as she leads the Diocese of Bhopal in this new chapter of ministry. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” – Psalm 126:3
