On February 20, 2024 the Russian Orthodox Church Synod’s Biblical and Theological Commission (SBBC) held an on-line meeting led by the chairman of the commission, Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest and Hungary.
The main item on the agenda of the SBBC was the discussion of the text of the declaration “Fiducia supplicans”, adopted by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Roman Catholic Church. The document, signed by the Prefect of the Congregation, Cardinal Manuel Fernandez and the Secretary of the Doctrinal Department, Armando Matteo, and approved and signed by Pope Francis, was published on official Vatican resources on December 18, 2023. The order to analyze the document was given to the Synodal Biblical Theological Commission by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The meeting opened with a speech by Metropolitan Hilarion, in which the chairman of the SBBC gave a brief overview of the current directions of the commission’s work, and also reported on the tasks that needed to be resolved within the framework of the plenum.
SBBC members expressed their views regarding the theological content of the declaration “Fiducia supplicans”, which for the first time in the history of the Catholic Church proposed forms of blessing “same-sex unions”. Members of the Synodal Biblical Theological Commission were unanimous that this innovation reflected a sharp departure from Christian moral teaching.
The results of the work of the Synodal Biblical Theological Commission on this issue will be sent for consideration to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia
20 февраля 2024 года в дистанционном формате состоялось пленарное заседание Синодальной библейско-богословской комиссии. Работу заседания возглавил председатель комиссии митрополит Будапештский и Венгерский Иларион.
Основным пунктом повестки заседания стало обсуждение текста декларации «Fiducia supplicans», принятой Конгрегацией вероучения Римско-Католической Церкви. Документ, подписанный префектом Конгрегации кардиналом Мануэлем Фернандесом и секретарем доктринального отдела Армандо Маттео, утвержденный и подписанный Папой Римским Франциском, был опубликован на официальных ресурсах Ватикана 18 декабря 2023 года. Поручение проанализировать документ дано Синодальной библейско-богословской комиссии Святейшим Патриархом Московским и всея Руси Кириллом.
Заседание открылось вступительным словом митрополита Илариона, в котором председатель СББК сделал краткий обзор текущих направлений работы комиссии, а также сообщил о задачах, требующих решения в рамках пленума.
Участники заседания выразили свои позиции относительно богословского содержания декларации «Fiducia supplicans», в которой впервые в истории Католической Церкви предложены формы благословения «однополых союзов». Члены Синодальной библейско-богословской комиссии были единогласны в том, что данное нововведение отражает резкий отход от христианского нравственного учения.
Результаты работы Синодальной библейско-богословской комиссии по данному вопросу будут направлены на рассмотрение Святейшего Патриарха Московского и всея Руси Кирилла.
