The Third George Bell Lecture honours the remarkable life and witness of the war-time Bishop of Chichester.
The Third George Bell Lecture honours the remarkable life and witness of the war-time Bishop of Chichester. Dedicated to Bell’s profound engagement with public affairs, immigration, and the ecumenical movement, the lecture series invites reflection on his fearless commitment to truth, justice, and care for the vulnerable – from refugees and the Jewish community to the confessing church in Nazi Germany.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Andrew Chandler, Bell’s most recent biographer.
Drawing on decades of research, Professor Chandler will ask: what became of the moral, cultural and intellectual legacies of Bell’s long public ministry after his death? And how might they be re-imagined and revived in a very different church and age today?
