Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ in the Anglican Church in Angola

Grace and peace to you as you celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Anglican Church in Angola. On behalf of the Primates of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA), we assure you of our prayers on this historic day.

Since the days of those pioneers who planted the first congregations in northern Angola, your story has been one of great perseverance and faithfulness, tested by the hostility of the authorities in the colonial era and then the devastation brought by a long civil war after independence.

But these challenges meant that you put down deep roots and now we are seeing rapid growth. It was as recently as 2019 that Angola became a diocese and yet now Angola has four dioceses, all sharing a determination to proclaim the gospel and make committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

It gives me great joy to see your progress in the faith. Sadly, there are some who are trying to lead our beloved Communion away from this faith, but I urge you to stand firm in the truth as you received it and press forward into your next one hundred years with great confidence in the power of the gospel, remembering that ‘he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ’ (Philippians 1:6).

Yours in Christ’s service,

The Most Revd Dr Justin Badi
Chairman
GSFA Steering Committee
