Bishop of Owestry responds to Commons’ euthanasia vote

In deepest sorrow the Bishop of Oswestry notes the vote in the House of Commons this afternoon in favour of profoundly flawed and destructive legislation, the Assisted Suicide Bill. Its passing will forever change the medical profession as well as society’s attitudes to the ill and vulnerable. It will contribute to the Culture of Death, not the Culture of Life for which the Church labours and longs.

The Bishop wholly associates himself with all who stand for the sacredness of human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death, and with the Church’s continuous witness to the revealed truth that human life is a gift from God not a possession; as something to be honoured and reverenced not exploited, manipulated, or deleted.
