The diocesan administrator of the Seychelles has been elected the Indian Ocean diocese’s fifth bishop. On 7 June 2025 the Ven. Danny Elizabeth was elected from among two candidates nominated by the bishops of Madagascar and Mauritius. Bishop-elect Elizabeth becomes the second Seychellois bishop for the diocese following the late Archbishop French Chang-Him.

Two nominees were selected by the provincial bishops to stand for election, Archdeacon Elizabeth and the Rev. Brian Volcère. The Most Rev. Gilbert Rateloson Rakotondravelo presided over the proceedings, which brought together clergy and laity from across the diocese and was conducted by secret ballot. He follows in the footsteps of Archbishop James Wong, who led the diocese for 15 years until his retirement earlier this year.

The new bishop-elect, who has been described as a dedicated pastor and servant of the Church, brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the people of Seychelles. His election has been met with widespread joy and anticipation, the Nation newspaper reports by Anglicans, who look forward to his episcopal ministry and leadership.
