Jezebel Schori tried to prevent the election of Mark Lawrence on a technicality- consents are supposed to be in writing and she claimed that e-mail did not count. what she didn’t know was that the electoral college in SC had adjourned temporarily but not dissolved, and they reconvened and re-elected him. She had previously illegally inhibited Bishop Duncan, claiming that it was not the intention of the framers of Title iv that the three senior Bishops should have a veto. The inhibition was also supposed to have the consent of all bishops entitled to vote- not just those present. from the beginning, she had Mark Lawrence in her sights. She even had Title iv amended at GC 2008, specifically to get at him. SC responded by amending its constitution and canons so that it acceded to the Constitution of TEC, but not its canons, and that if there were a clash between the canons of SC and TEC, SCs canons would prevail. SC and Bishop Lawrence did their best to stay in whilst remaining orthodox. I honestly believed and hoped that Mark Lawrence would be able to remain in and show a way forward for dioceses to stay in and recover TEC for orthodoxy. Jezebel Schori did use Title iv against Bishop Mark- but the first time the disciplinary committee found no evidence of abandonment of communion. No problem for Jezebel. Change the judges. When she informed Mark that she was inhibiting his ministry, he told her that under SC rules that would trigger a Special Convention to consider withdrawal. It happened. She then announced that Mark Lawrence had renounced his orders- whichy was ablatant lie- he hadn’t. Mark and the Diocese were forced to go to Court to protect their identity because an e-mail using the Diocesan seals was sent to all clergy calling them to a Special Convention. A breakaway schismatic group was formed, which still claims to be the Diocese. Whereas Jezebel and her lawyers pursued a policy of vindictive litigation against departing parishes, Bishop Mark allowed all parishes freedom to depart and join the breakaway diocese and keep their property. On top of all this, he had to sit through sessions in court where TEC lawyers were allowed to make ad hominem attacks on him and his integrity. He had no intention of leaving TEC or joining ACNA, but didn’t abandon his diocese when they chose to do so. .Throughout, he has conducted himself honourably, faithfully, honestly courageously.
