It is amazing to see the news and pictures coming out of the Church of England around Ramadan.

  1. Excellent episode. Thanks for the brief exposition on the province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, especially the situation between Cyprus and the parishes in the Gulf states. One notes the budget figures in the “Synod Scene” magazine published by the diocese, (if I am reading the figures correctly) put the bishop’s salary at 100,000 Euros (87,486 British Pounds) – which is more than the Archbishop of Canterbury (78,980 Pounds as of 2017- best number I could find), and about twice the salary of a CoE diocesan bishop. And Cyprus, a diocese that can’t afford to pay its clergy…..
Given that, would he want to take a 60% pay cut to be the suffragan bishop of Cyprus in the Diocese of Europe?

  2. I am willing to give Welby some slack in the case of the bishop of Lincoln. A local paper called the “Lincolnite” (I have no idea of its political leanings, etc) is reporting that in addition to the action taken against the bishop, in the past month the cathedral dean, chancellor and another senior official in the diocese have all decided to take leaves of absence of apparently uncertain duration, with little explanation by the diocese but connected to a variety of past “safeguarding failures”- so it hardly seems co-incidental.

Of course, +Gavin’s point about this being used to shield Welby and other officials in the CoE is well founded. Rather in the same way he created a hubbub over gay spouses- which shifts the discussion from the dissension over his invitations to gay bishops and the TEC bishops generally.

  3. Jeepers, Mrs Sarah Mallally’s testimony is going from bad to worse! In wearing a hijab to the mosque what is she turning out to be or trying to project about herself to the church?: a lousy fashion craze, a phoney interfaith champion, a clown, or a deadpan comedian?

This said, if she is truly genuine in about what she’s trying to do, I have two serious suggestions for her where she could score the most: First, since Mrs Mallally gets to sit in the House of Lords in Parliament, why not she wear the hijab to parliament? Second, wear the hijab and cassock to Lambeth 2020 and be seen as a bishopess penguin.

There is a third suggestion as well: Not that Mrs Mallally is one, but, since anglo-catholic bishops wear a scalp cap (zucchetto) with the cassock and under the mitre at mass, why not Mrs Mallally extend the imagination a bit and adopt to wear a hijab instead all the time? By example, this will also influence her fellow bishopesses and a whole generation of priestesses to wear purple and black hijabs. Wouldn’t this be ground-braking and news-worthy stuff that can give a new face to Welby’s Anglican Communion which is bending 90% degrees backwards to say Christianity equals Islam?

And, of course, doing all this, Nurse Mullally and Welby can also make a significant contribution to interfaith relations with the Muslims and their final takeover of the Uk.

If Mrs Sarah Mullally to act on these suggestions, she will be reported on all over the world, get millions of hits and views and top the charts on fashion, midwifery, nursing, interfaith relations, comic and deadpan comedy.

It is of interest to note that Mrs Mallally’s and Darlinton parish Mrs Lissa Scott’s interfaith sham and comedies are not reported on Anglican Communion News. This goes to show that ACN too has carefully avoided reporting this shameful news. The Diocese of Durham has done its part in damage control.

As for the news of Justin Welby suspending the Bishop of Lincon, what could be said? I’d would say this is what is to be expected when a manager of an oil business becomes the Archbishop of Canterbury: you get to see spills everywhere.???

    • Nice final comment Dr. ?
Although I would add, as I wear a zuchetto myself, that Nurse Sarah probably has no idea what a zuchetto is and would probably confuse it with the Jewish kippah!

      • Thanks, Fr K. Yes, indeed, nurse Sarah would confuse a zuchetto for a kippah. Didn’t she also, at a recent conference, along with another handful of UK bishopesses (and Welby) confused cathedral organ pipes for phalluses? Dumb so this much, what can the church and the diocese of London expect of her? ?????
