The Most Rev. David Chillingworth, Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church and Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane

Bishop Chillingworth was born in Dublin on 23 June 1951 and reared in Northern Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. He studied theology at Oriel College, Oxford and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. He trained for the ministry at Ripon College Cuddesdon and earned his diploma in 1976. Ordained deacon in 1976 and priest in 1977 in the Church of Ireland, he served in the parish ministry before being appointed the Church of Ireland’s youth officer in 1979. He served as rector of Seagoe Parish Church in Portadown in the Diocese of Down and Dromore from 1986 to 2005, and as Archdeacon of Dromore from 1995 to 2002. In 2005 he was elected Bishop of of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane and consecrated on 5 March 2005 at St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth.On 13 June 2009, Bishop Chillingworth was elected the Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church by the church’s college of bishops. He is married to Alison Chillingworth and they have three children, Anna, Simon and Mark.
