The Primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya has cancelled the election of a bishop for the Diocese of Mount Kenya Central after complaints were lodged of electoral irregularities.

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Kenya, the Most Rev. Eliud Wabukala, has cancelled the election of a bishop for the Diocese of Mount Kenya Central after complaints were lodged of electoral irregularities. On 7 Sept 2015 Archbishop Wabukala prorogued the election of a new bishop to succeed the Rt. Rev. Isaac Ng’ang’a, who is retiring in October after 15 years of service. Eleven candidates had been put forward for consideration by a panel under the supervision of the archbishop’s office, who selected three candidates to contest the 12 Sept 2015 election. According to sources in Kenya, some members of the diocese had written to the archbishop complaining of improper conduct, prompting the archbishop to intervene. No date has been set for the new election.
