Terror attacks prompts Embassy to urge Americans to avoid churches in Egypt this Easter

In light of recent terrorist attacks targeting religious institutions in Alexandria and Tanta (a city about 50 miles north of Cairo) and the subsequent declaration of a state of emergency by the government of Egypt, U.S. Mission personnel have been advised to avoid identifiable places of worship for the next two weeks. U.S. citizens should maintain a heightened state of alert, avoiding crowds and public gatherings, at all times while in Egypt, and are reminded that the Egypt Travel Warning issued by the Department of State on December 23, 2016 remains in effect.
