Canon John Taylor elected on sixth ballot

The Rev. Canon John Taylor (61) vicar of St John Chrysostom’s Church & School in Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca., was elected on the eighth ballot from a field of six candidates on 3 Dec 2016 to succeed the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno as Bishop of Los Angeles. Pending approval of his election by the wider church, Bishop-elect Taylor will become bishop-coadjutor and will become Bishop of Los Angeles next year upon the retirement of Bishop Bruno. Canon Taylor was not among the list of candidates put forward by the diocesan search committee, but was nominated by petition. Since 2004 he has been vicar of a south Orange County congregation with an affiliated day school of 426 students. From 1990 to 2007 Canon Taylor was director of the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library, and had served as chief staff to the former president.
