I deny having forged any letter, God is my witness,” says Bishop Waweru

The Bishop of Nairobi has denied claims he forged the Most Rev.  Eliud Wabukala’s signature to a letter that was published on the provincial website that reversed the church’s stance on attending last week’s meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council. In a statement to the Nation Newspaper of Nairobi published on 24 April 2016, the Rt. Rev. Joel Waweru said: “Allegations of forgery are extremely serious and constitute a criminal offence. I deny having forged any letter, God is my witness.” Bishop Waweru has declined to respond to questions from the Church of England Newspaper. However, in an 11 April 2016 interview with the Church of England Newspaper, Archbishop Wabukala said he did not sign, nor did he approve the letter prepared by Bishop Waweru. The archbishop said the forgery was a ruse to justify the attendance of the Kenyan delegation to the meeting and to “defy my authority.”
