The Diocese of East Carolina’s Search Committee has announced a slate of three nominees to stand for election as the ninth bishop of East Carolina during the Nov. 14-15 diocesan convention at the Maxwell Convention Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Approved by the diocesan Standing Committee on Sept. 4, the nominees are:

  • The Rev. Brian Cannaday, rector,  St. Christopher’s in League City, Texas;
  • The Rev. Sarah Fisher, rector, St. Catherine’s in Marietta, Georgia;
  • The Rev. Caleb Lee, rector, St. Paul’s in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The bishop-elect will succeed the Rt. Rev. Robert Stuart Skirving, who will retire after 12 years of service.

All in the diocese are invited to meet the nominees at a series of regional meet-and-greets. Details about livestreams and recordings of these meet-and-greets are forthcoming. Details about locations and dates can be found here.

The Standing Committee has initiated a nomination process by petition, with applications due by Sept. 29. Pending consents, the bishop-elect will be ordained and consecrated on May 26, 2026.
