Florida Standing Committee writes to the diocese about the Holt election

1211

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Thank you for your patience and prayers as we, your Standing Committee, have been meeting and praying over the Court of Review’s recent findings. Our prayers have been for wisdom, clarity and unity in our Diocese during this important time.

Today, we received a letter from Fr. Charlie Holt formally requesting that his acceptance of the election be withdrawn. You may read it here.

We have been in contact with Bishop Howard and have also engaged in discussions with the Office of the Presiding Bishop to determine the best path forward.

We understand that this turn of events will bring a spectrum of emotion across the Diocese. At this unprecedented moment in which we are easily tempted to division, we want to remember the words of Jesus, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, that you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

We all love the Lord and this Diocese; let us love one another by praying first and then speaking with wisdom, charity and discretion.

We want to find a path that brings the broadest confidence to our Diocese and church. Bishop Howard has assured us that he will speak to the Diocese next week on these important issues. Please keep the faith and continue to pray for us and one another.

In Christ Alone,

Your Standing Committee
