Bishop Daniel Herzog received by the ACNA

1486
Dan Herzog (l) and Bill Love (r)

Bishop Daniel W. Herzog will be received into the Anglican Church in North America tomorrow, April 11, 2021, the Second Sunday of Easter. He will serve under Bishop Julian Dobbs in the Anglican Diocese of the Living Word.

Bishop Herzog has faithfully served over 50 years in pastoral ministry. He became the eighth Diocesan Bishop in the Diocese of Albany in 1998 where he served until 2007. Bishop Herzog and his wife, Carol, have since continued to minister in the State of of New York in many capacities.

The Anglican Diocese of the Living Word shares more about Bishop Herzog below:

A statement regarding the Right Reverend Daniel W. Herzog

It is our great pleasure to announce that the Right Reverend Daniel W.
Herzog has joined the Anglican Diocese of the Living Word. The Most
Reverend Foley Beach has received Bishop Herzog as a retired bishop
in the Anglican Church in North America. Bishop Julian Dobbs has
welcomed Bishop Dan into our midst and looks forward to the
ministry, wisdom, and participation that he and his wife, Carol, bring to
our diocese.

Bishop Herzog was ordained to the priesthood in 1971 and consecrated
as a Coadjutor-Bishop in 1997. In 1998 he began his term of Ministry
as the eighth Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Albany. He retired in
2007, and later assisted his successor, the Right Reverend William Love,
overseeing parish revitalizations and serving as the Director of the
Ministry of Healing and Spiritual Formation at Christ the King Spiritual
Life Center. His most recent assignment was at St Augustine’s Parish
in Ilion, NY. He and his wife Carol have been married for 56 years and
are blessed with five children and fourteen grandchildren.

Bishop Herzog’s extensive experience is a tremendous blessing to the
Church and we anticipate that the Anglican Diocese of the Living
Word will benefit greatly from his ministry as he serves in his episcopal
capacity.

“Almighty God, who by your Son Jesus Christ gave many
excellent gifts to your holy Apostles, and charged them to feed
your flock: Give your grace to all Bishops, the pastors of your
Church, that they may diligently preach your Word, duly
administer your Sacraments, and wisely provide godly discipline;
and grant to your people that they may obediently follow them,
so that all may receive the crown of everlasting glory; through
the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.”

  1. I pray that the reception of +Love and +Herzog will encourage other faithful Christian clergy and laity from their former diocese to leave TEC and join ACNA.

  2. Mr. Herzog (having, at one point, denied that he had even been ordained a deacon) has displayed a tremendous amount of theological and ecclesiastical instability in his life and, while I am sure he is a kind man and loves his family, should not be allowed anywhere close to leadership at any level in ACNA.

    • In ignorance, I would be more charitable. Swimming the Tiber usually doesn’t work out well for clergy. Rome doesn’t want them. Don’t know any bishops accepted from ACA and TAC. Might have been a few priests that went through the process. Bp. Steenson (TEC?) sort of made the transition to the Ordinariate and of course there was Newman and I think an early bishop, pre-revolution, from Eastern North Carolina was received by Rome along with the diocesan treasury. Don’t think Gavin Ashenden will be welcome with open arms either. We can hope +Herzog convinces +Love to drop the pro-WO stance.

      • I find it interesting that Diocese of the Living Word (formerly known as CANA East) does not ordain women to the priesthood has welcomed Bp Love who does and Bp Herzog who I think does as well. Just goes to show you . . .

        • It will be interesting to see whether they are allowed any input into that level of decision-making, or whether their role is to help some of their former parishioners transition from TEC to ACNA.
