The Chief Justice of Jamaica has been appointed Chancellor of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

The Chief Justice of Jamaica, the Hon. Zaila McCalla, has been appointed Chancellor of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. On 1 July 2014 the Rt. Rev. Howard Gregory announced that Mrs. McCalla had succeeded the former chief justice, the Hon. Lensley Wolfe, as chancellor following 18 years of service to the diocese. A graduate of the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School, Chief Justice McCalla was called to the Jamaican Bar in 1976. She served as Deputy Clerk of Court and as a Crown Prosecutor before being appointed a Magistrate in 1985. Upon her appointment in 2007 she became the first female Chief Justice of Jamaica. Dr. Gregory wrote that “under the Canons of the Church, the Chancellor must be a communicant member of the Anglican Church, with legal training. Mrs Justice McCalla is an ardent and active member of St Margaret’s Church, Liguanea.”
