The Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes (ADGL) has elected the Very Rev. Christopher M. Klukas as Bishop Coadjutor on the first ballot, following a prayerful search and election process conducted in accordance with the diocese’s Constitution and Canons and the newly adopted Customary for the Election of a Bishop of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) College of Bishops.

The Rt. Rev. William H. Love, Assisting Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Northeast, served as Episcopal Advisor for the election process. Fr. Klukas received 57 of 94 possible clergy votes and 28 of 49 possible lay votes.

“I bear witness that the entire search and election process was conducted in a right and godly manner,” Bishop Love said.

About the Very Rev. Christopher M. Klukas

The Very Rev. Christopher M. Klukas has served as rector of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lewis Center, Ohio, since 2022. Under his leadership, the congregation has experienced growth in discipleship, worship, organizational health, and mission.

Fr. Klukas serves the ADGL as president of the Standing Committee, currently on a leave of absence during the bishop discernment process, and as Area Dean of Central and Southern Ohio.

A lifelong Anglican, Fr. Klukas came to personal faith and repentance at age 16 during a diocesan youth retreat in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he also sensed the Lord’s call to ordained ministry. Across twenty years of ordained ministry, he has served fourteen years as a rector in three dioceses. His ministry has included parish revitalization, theological education, communications, and collaborative leadership. He previously served as Canon for Communications for the Gulf Atlantic Diocese and directed communications and publishing at Trinity School for Ministry, where he also taught as an adjunct professor.

Fr. Klukas contributed to the ACNA Liturgical Task Force’s development of the 2019 Book of Common Prayer, including early drafts of the baptismal and Holy Communion liturgies. He holds a Master of Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary and a Diploma in Advanced Pastoral Leadership from Trinity Anglican Seminary, with doctoral work focused on liturgical catechesis and family discipleship.

A Call to Prayer

Bishop Love has asked the College of Bishops and the wider Anglican Church in North America to pray for Fr. Klukas, his wife the Rev. Canon Carrie Klukas, and their family as they enter this new chapter of life and ministry.

He also requested prayers for Bishop Allen Kannapell, the other candidate in the election, and his wife, Lisa, and their family. Bishop Love commended Bishop Kannapell for his Christlike conduct throughout the process and his gracious response to the election.

Bishop Love invites the Province to give thanks for the faithful service of all involved and to pray for God’s wisdom, grace, and guidance for Fr. Klukas and his family in the days ahead.
