Jacob Kahemele to be consecrated as Bishop of the Southern Highlands

The Rev. Canon Jacob Kahemele will be consecrated the third Bishop of the Southern Highlands of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, tomorrow (11 May 2025) at Christ the King Cathedral in Mbye in succession to the Rt. Rev. Julius Lugendo.

Bishop-elect Kahemele was elected at a special meeting of the Southern Highlands synod on 28 March 2025, and his election was endorsed by the Tanzanian House of Bishops.

Prior to his election Bishop-elect Kahemele served as provost of St Alban’s Cathedral in Dar es Salaam. He has also been involved in community development as the Chief Executive Officer for Holistic Enterprise for Advancing Rural Tanzania (HEART), a charity that seeks to improve the lives of the rural poor. The Primate of Tanzania, the Most Rev. Maimbo Mndolwa, will consecrate the new bishop.
