March 31, 2025 Dear Diocese of Florida, In accordance with Title III, Canon 11, Section 1.a. of the Canons of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida calls the Diocese to elect a Bishop Diocesan. The election will likely occur in the late Summer or early Fall of 2026, with consecration projected to take place in early 2027. Gratefully, the Diocese is prepared to begin this process thanks to months of careful deliberation and prayerful work done by the Standing Committee, Diocesan Council, and other Diocesan leadership. Call to Special Meeting of the Diocesan Convention Special Meeting of the Diocesan Convention Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10 a.m.Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center Pursuant to Canon 1, Section 2(b) of the Diocesan Canons, the Standing Committee is also calling the Diocesan Convention to a special meeting at Camp Weed to adopt the rules and procedures for the election of the Bishop Diocesan. Rules and procedures for the nominating process will be included. The nominating process will begin immediately following this meeting, with applications for the nominating committee being issued on June 16, 2025.A draft of the proposed rules and procedures will be posted to the Diocese of Florida website no later than May 15, 2025. This draft may be updated and reposted through June 7, 2025. Who attends? All voting members of the Diocesan convention are asked to attend. This includes all clergy and lay delegates, including canonically resident clergy of the Diocese of Florida without cure who register (see below). How do I register for the special meeting? Registration to attend the special meeting will open soon for all clergy and lay delegates. |
Notice to Canonically Resident Clergy of theDiocese of Florida without Cure For the first time, the Standing Committee is following a process for canonically resident clergy without cure to ensure their right to vote at the June 14 special meeting. The Standing Committee reminds canonically resident clergy of the Diocese of Florida who do not hold cure—as defined in Canon 1, Section 4 of the Diocesan Canons—that to vote at this meeting, you must register to vote with the Diocesan office no later than 60 days before the meeting, or April 15, 2025. This is pursuant to Canon 1, Section 3(a)(2) of the Diocesan Canons. You may register in either of the following two ways: By written letter received to 325 North Market Street, Jacksonville, FL, 32202 on or before April 15, 2025.By confirmed email with Hannia Reyes of the diocesan staff at hreyes@diocesefl.org on or before April 15, 2025. Ensure Hannia has acknowledged and confirmed your registration by email by April 15. You will also need to separately register for the special meeting. |
